Description
Postcard of what looks like an accident. On the back, it says that the photo was taken at the Alton B & P Railroad Crossing in 1915. The Bangor Daily News reports on a train crossing accident in Alton that took place on Sunday, August 8 of that year and killed one person. Since the article mentions that George Brown saw the accident happen from his home,  the crossing must have been where the railroad crossed Bennoch Road, which was just north of the town line with Old Town and next to the Lower School (and Brown's house). According to the Bangor Daily News that accident was investigated by the Maine Public Utilities Commission (then newly created in 1914) and several photographs were taken that were added to the files.
