About
Sam Harris was a long-time fixture of Old Town's business district. Born on March 6, 1873 (probably in Greenbush, ME), he started a barber shop in Old Town before 1906 (first reference in Penobscot Times), which he ran for over 50 years (with a two-year hiatus when he served during World War I). Later in life, he probably was best known for his collection of 70+ shaving mugs of current and former customers, now on display at the Old Town Public Library. He died on March 6, 1961 and is buried at Lawndale Cemetery.
